OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Case
Open the hinged lid and fold back as far as possible to form a rear stand for the meter. To shut the case, close the lid and then apply pressure (quite a lot) on each side of the lid at the location of the recesses (just below the hinge fixings) to make the hinges ‘overtravel’.
Turn On - Automatic mode
The electrodes must be plugged in. Push the SET button and release. The SET button is the left hand button.
Turn On - Manual mode
The electrodes must be plugged in. Push the SET button and hold down until the LED turns off.
Turn Off
Unplug the electrodes. The instrument also automatically turns off when not used for more than 30 minutes.
Setting the Needle
In Automatic mode, the needle
will always be SET when it reaches the edge of the dial. There is a short
delay at the right hand end in case the needle drifts back onto the dial
again. The needle can also be SET by pressing the SET push-button.
In manual mode the needle
is only SET when the SET push-button is pressed.
LED
The LED (light emitting diode) in the middle of the dial is illuminated whenever there is a needle SET occurring. It avoids any confusion about what is causing the needle to move.
Sensitivity
Sensitivity is adjusted using the rotary knob and ranges from 1 to 40.
Left hand LCD Display
The LCD (liquid crystal display) normally shows the base resistance value (baseline), which ranges from 0.9 to 6.5. The displayed value updates after a needle SET. However, when the sensitivity knob is moved the display changes to show the sensitivity setting. It reverts back to displaying baseline after the next needle SET.
Right hand LCD Display
This shows the baseline drop (BD) count. The BD counter is turned off when the display flashes, and enabled when the display shows permanently. It is toggled on and off using the right hand push-button. To zero the counter, turn the meter off and on again.
Batteries
A battery charge check is
performed when the mindwalker is turned on.
If the batteries are low,
the symbol 'Lo' will appear on the LCD and remain until the SET button
is pressed again. It is likely that there are a good few hours of battery
life left, but the batteries should be changed as soon as possible. Use
a small coin to release the cap and insert the new batteries with the positive
(bump) facing towards the cap. Use only alkaline AA size batteries. Battery
life is estimated at 400 hours.
Needle Response
The needle is very fast and 'tight'. It reflects exactly what is happening on the electrodes. For those who have not used a modern device like this before it may seem strange in comparison with older instruments. It is however much more accurate and easier to use.
